Analytical Chemistry Principles Course Description

This analytical chemistry principles 15-hour live, online course will introduce attendees to the critical concepts needed to analyze samples properly. On the first day attendees will learn strategies for optimizing analyses, how to correctly perform representative sampling, increase data quality, and properly determine accuracy and precision. The day continues with a discussion of how to properly develop calibrations, measure their quality, and ensure they are used properly.

The second day of the course is devoted to an introduction to analytical chemistry instrumental techniques commonly used in pharmaceutical labs, with an eye towards teaching attendees to choose the right analytical technique for each sample. Attendees will discover through an understanding of the foundational theory behind chromatography how to optimize their methods to purify, identify, and quantify samples. A discussion of the instrumentation of gas chromatography (GC) and High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) will allow analysts to pick the right separation technique for the right sample.

The course wraps up with a presentation on how spectroscopy is used in pharmaceutical labs. An important technique for performing identifications, infrared spectroscopy, is introduced. Mass spectrometry, which when combined with chromatography gives powerful methods for purifying, identifying, and quantifying samples is presented next. We finish off with how elemental analysis is performed in pharmaceutical labs.

After taking this course attendees will have a better understanding of analytical chemistry, helping them improve their performance in the lab while preparing them for more in-depth training.
